Safeguard Program

Clinical Care Associates Safeguard Program was developed for the sole purpose of providing a safe environment for all children that are or will be attending family reunification through supervised visitations. Under the child safety guidelines already established by State agencies, such as Child Protective Services, Clinical Care Associates’ Safeguard Program enhances those guidelines by providing additional conditions to the supervised visitation process with mandated clients.

Safeguard candidates attend a 2 day seminar that consists of a psycho-educational screening of each candidate’s eligibility as a child visitation supervisor. Through inter-agency cooperation, information is shared about each potential candidate. Inter-agency information on child visitation supervision is ongoing for as long as such supervision is ordered by the referring agency and or the Court.

Clinical Care Associates’ Safeguard Program focuses on making child protection an integral part of existing practices for managing and preventing risk for children who are or will be going through the process of family reunification.

OUR AIMS:

  • protect all children from physical and emotional harm, including all forms of physical and mental violence, injury or abuse (including sexual abuse), neglect or negligent treatment, maltreatment or exploitation.
  • prevent, reduce, manage and, where possible, avoid risks relating to children and young people.

Our Safeguard Program is offered to potential candidates that are seeking child visitation supervision.

The Safeguard Program is presented in a series of modules that include background checks of potential candidates, child safety education, physical, psychological, emotional and child sexual abuse symptomatology and prevention.

Poor Safeguards could lead to the onset or perpetuation of child abuse, therefore, it is imperative to provide children with a safe environment that could facilitate the visitation process. It is just as important to provide all adults that are willing to participate in the child visitation supervision process, with complete knowledge of the responsibilities that entails such supervised visits.

Domestic Violence Evaluation and Intervention Program

Clinical Care Associates, LCSW, PC, has formulated a minimum 24-sessions, Court approved, Domestic Violence Intervention Program, designed to provide a basic foundation to men and women who have been mandated by the judicial system to undergo an evaluation and/or intervention when indicated. We work closely with all referring agencies in order to provide a collaborative and containment model approach to ending domestic violence.

Evaulation and Assessment Includes:

  • Identification of the domestic violence offense cycle and related precursors
  • Identification of abusive behavioral patterns
  • Assessment of individual needs
  • Identification of interpersonal deficits
  • Assessment of the likelihood of continued risk to their partners, children and the community (lethality assessment)
  • Determination of the most appropriate clinical setting
  • Identification of additional patterns of criminal behaviors

Additional Assessment Options:

  • Mental Health Evaluations
  • Drug/Alcohol Evaluations

  • Defining abuse and the cycle of violence
  • Understanding anger, manipulation, power, control and effective use of time out.
  • Drugs and Alcohol: The connection to domestic violence
  • Impact of domestic violence on children
  • Effective communication with domestic partners
  • Basic conflict resolution skills
  • Playing the tape to the end: Consequential Thinking.

Program purpose, Goals and Rules of the program, Duty to Warn and Limited Confidentiality are discussed with new clients.

SO Evaluation and Treatment

Clinical Care Associates, LCSW, PC, offers a specialized treatment program that is designed to provide risk assessment and treatment of sex offenders. The program utilizes professionals that are specifically trained in the treatment of this population. A variety of clients may be suitable for our program, including those who offend against children and women, exhibitionist, voyeurs and individuals with other sexually deviant behaviors.

Who We See:

  • Individuals who manifest an interest or are at risk for committing a sexual assault against children or adults.
  • Individuals who manifest other deviant sexual activities or urges such as exhibitionism, voyeurism, obscene phone calling, possession of child pornography, as well as other sexual anomalies.
  • Clients who are in the process of being sentenced can be referred by their attorneys for treatment and/or assessment.
  • Offenders who are under the jurisdiction of the Criminal Justice System after a conviction for sexual offenses and who are residing in the community under the supervision of Parole, Probation or Child Protective Services.

What We Do:

Assessment: The initial assessment includes a thorough Bio-Psycho-Social Evaluation. A referral for psychological or psychiatric testing or assessments with other health professionals may be made, when indicated. A Clinical Instant Offense Polygraph recommendation may also be made in cases when indicated.

  1. Relapse Prevention Groups: The group treatment approach is based on cognitive-behavioral models designed to help individuals to better understand and control their deviant sexual behaviors, with the objective or preventing a recurrence of sexual offending. A Clinical Sexual History Polygraph is utilized in the treatment and risk assessment. Some of the therapeutic goals include, recognition, and defining sexual urges, addressing victim impact, defining high-risk situations and their parameters, as well as learning to cope with urges and deviant fantasies.

Parenting Skills Program

Clinical Care Associate, LCSW, PC, offers a 6-8 sessions, Active Parenting Program, in English and Spanish. This program is designed to provide parents with the information and skills to foster in their children the qualities necessary to thrive in society; Cooperation, Courage, Responsibility, Self-esteem, and Respect.

Topics specifically addressed with this group format include:

  • Styles of parenting
  • Active communication
  • Responsibility
  • Handling anger
  • Power encouragement
  • Respect
  • Think-feel-action cycle

Participation in the Parenting Skills Program may be recommended independently or concurrently with other counseling/treatment, such as individual therapy, group therapy and family counseling, where indicated.

Correspondence to Child Protective Services, Probation, Parole, attorneys and referring physicians is forwarded with consent, outlining the recommendation, attendance, participation, concerns and overall counseling progress.

As with all intervention programs, program goals and rules, duty to warn and limited confidentiality, are discussed with new clients.
